Sunset at Beltra lake

Getting out to photograph the sunrise or sunset over one of the many lakes in the West of Ireland is probably one of my favourite pastimes. There are some stunning skies here on a summers evening or indeed at any time of year, if only people would take the time to go out and enjoy them.

This photograph was taken at Beltra Lake, Glenisland, Ireland on a July evening.

The lake was beautifully calm. The sun was setting in the west and casting a glorious sheen over the water.

Photographers tend to beaver away non-stop behind the camera to extract every last image during these few golden moments. But it's just as important to stop every once in a while and sit down to enjoy what it is that brought us out here in the first place. So, set up your camera on the tripod and grab your remote control and enjoy the show.

Indeed it is only by looking at and appreciating the sunset that we can truly learn how to best capture it.
