Shoot The land

Join me for a hands-on Landscape Photography Workshop around the beautiful county of Mayo. This workshop is aimed at people who have a basic working knowledge of their cameras and are looking to improve their landscape and seascape images.

The workshop will start with a chat about where we will be going and what to expect. Then we will drive out to chosen locations to photograph the majestic Mayo landscape & coastline.
Together, we will visit well-known locations as well as some hidden gems.

If there’s any particular aspect or specific location you want to cover, I can accommodate this too. We will decide all of this in advance of the day.

Together, we will explore each location, all the while learning how to actually “work the scene” to get the best possible image.

I cannot guarantee fine weather – in fact, sometimes we may not want it to be fine. This is the West of Ireland after all and hopefully, we’ll get some classic West of Ireland big skies.!

There will be hands-on instruction including; Shooting in Manual Mode for Ultimate Control over your Image Making, Effective Composition and Use of Light, Shooting in Manual Mode for Ultimate Control over your Image Making, Benefits of Shooting in Raw over JPEG, Understanding Exposure, Aperture and Shutter Priority Modes, ISO and using the Histogram, Depth of Field and Working with Filters.
During the workshop, I will tell you all I know about capturing the scene around us. I will teach you the technical side of photography as well as the aesthetics of photography.

At any time, participants can ask me any question about their photography and I will always endeavour to give an answer.

What to bring?

Your Digital SLR camera and lenses. Bring all filters you may have but I do have some you can use if you don’t have any. A tripod (I have spares if you do not have your own) + an open mind and an empty canvas

Make sure your battery is fully charged and you have formatted your memory cards. Pack your wellies or boots. There may be a little walking over uneven, muddy or sandy ground, but nothing too strenuous.

Bring warm and waterproof clothing, hats and gloves. This is the West of Ireland, so you should be prepared for rain, wind or sunny skies.

The group Workshop will last up to 6 hours and costs €120 per person. The maximum group I take is three participants. Class size is small by design to allow for plenty of one-on-one instruction opportunities.

The workshop fee includes all transportation during the workshop. Not included is transport costs to/from the workshop start/finish point or any food/drink. Bottled water is provided.

Some people benefit more from a One to One workshop and I cater for these as well.
This workshop includes all of the above with the added benefit of having my undivided attention for the day.

We will delve into the finer points of each topic in order to give you a better understanding of the photographic process.

Beforehand, we will both sit down and discuss any particular requests that you may have. This workshop will be all about your preference and what you want to shoot.

I will have my Macbook and Adobe Lightroom along for the day and I will go through my workflow to show how I’d process a photo. We’ll even do it on a photo that you’ve taken on the day.
If you would like to know more about the group workshops, feel free to contact me here.
