Enable The Framing Grid for Live View on Canon
You can display a grid on the LCD monitor that will help when composing a photo using Live View.
- Press the Menu button on the back of your camera.
- Use the directional selector to navigate to the Live View Shooting Settings.
- Then use the same selector to highlight Grid Display and then press the Set button.
- Use the selector again to highlight the desired grid.
The 3 X 3 grid with nine squares is the most useful. This is identical to the Rule of Thirds photographers use when composing images.
Press set and this grid will now display on the monitor when you shoot in Live View.
If your camera has a Q button on the back, most of these functions can be set there using that.
Enable The Grid on Nikon Cameras
As with all camera manufacturers, these options may be in a different menu depending on your particular model. Consult your manual if in doubt.
A framing grid can be displayed by selecting Grid display in the setup menu. First, press the Menu button. Select Setup > Display > Grid display.
Select On to display a framing grid.
While in Live View on some Nikons, pressing the Info button gives a range of options including displaying a grid.
