I shot this long exposure image of the boat wreck at Barnatra Bay in north Mayo by night just recently. The sun was setting but the weather was very overcast and it was actually raining heavily at the time.
I wanted to capture the delicate tones of light created by the clouds moving across the sky and the receding tide in the foreground. The best way to do this was to use a long exposure. The shutter was open for over four minutes to get this effect. A combination of the long exposure and the quality of light has turned this into a ghostly scene. I think this suits the boat wreck.
In my workshops (that will continue over the Autumn/Winter) we will discuss various techniques in order to capture long exposures of the ocean like this.
If you have a particular scene of any part of Mayo that you’d like captured, let me know and we can create something great together.
