The Westport Sea2Summit adventure race is a unique event based in the adventure capital of Ireland, Westport. On a fabulous sunny November morning, over 1700 athletes took this ultimate challenge.
And I was there to record it. This was a day long shoot and at the end of it I had nearly 3000 photos for the client. The race incorporates all the thrills that Westport has to offer, Croagh Patrick, Clew Bay, the Sheeffry Mountains and the new Greenway.
Sea 2 Summit is a fantastic experience for the competitors. It is the work of the organising committee, the volunteer marshals, support organisations and the support of the local community and businesses of Westport that make it such a success.
There are two separate races with three categories in both which include a mix of road running, cycling, and a mountain hike. It finishes with a small adventure obstacle course and short sea run which consists of a 100m dash across a shore line.
The Sea2Summit Spirit caters for the participant that wants a challenge but has not taken part in adventure racing before. Duration time for the fastest is about 2.5 – 3hrs.
The Sea2Summit Supreme is for the
participant who wants an extra challenge. The hike up and down the front face of Croagh Patrick will hurt the legs and the back breaking ramps at the Maum climb will definitely test your bike and quad muscles.
Duration time for the Supreme athletes is around 3.5hrs.
